President and CEO of CARE Canada: Kevin McCort
Kevin McCort is the President and Chief Executive Officer of CARE Canada, a position he has held since 2007. CARE is Canada’s leading development and humanitarian organization, programming close to $150 million annually in approximately 30 countries. From 2000-2007, Mr. McCort served in progressively senior management positions with CARE, managing both operations and programmatic portfolios.
Prior to returning to Canada, Mr. McCort was the CARE country officer director in Zambia from 1997-2000. In Zambia, he worked with refugees and directed educational, agricultural, and urban development projects. Mr. McCort spent 1990-1992 in Zimbabwe and 1987-1988 in Mali with his former employer, World University Service of Canada. Kevin's interest in international development began in 1983 when he travelled to Indonesia with Canada World Youth.
He has lived, worked, or visited more than 50 countries and has extensive knowledge about the politics, economics, and social issues of more than 30 countries where CARE presently works.
As president and CEO, Mr. McCort has been a driving force behind operational and organizational changes that strengthen CARE’s program delivery. In Canada, Mr. McCort is a recognized and a sought-after expert on international development. He sits on the boards of Imagine Canada, the Humanitarian Coalition and CARE International. Mr. McCort is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization.
Mr. McCort studied international development at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1989 with a B.Sc. (Specialist/Honours). In 2005, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Queen's University..
